The Niger Delta University, NDU joined the nationwide ASUU Strike yesterday Wednesday August 16th 2017. After a congress held at the main campus Lecture Theater 2 yesterday, the ASUU board NDU chapter agreed on joining the nationwide strike.
According to the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, the reason for the ongoing nationwide strike was:
- delay in payment of wages and academic benefits;
- lack of licenses for the activities of NUPENCO;
- salary of retired teachers;
- schools for the training of current staff;
- means for the revitalization of public educational establishments. .
The below highlighted text was the resolution made by the vice chancellor of the university in collaboration with the students:
1. No more course cards to register courses
2. Payment of school fees and registration of courses (including GST courses) continues as long the strike is still in progress.
3. NDU have finally embarked on the ASUU strike. it is indefinite.
4. N1000 charge on ID card remains for now.
5. First semester examination commences as soon as the strike is called off.
6. E-pin charge remains N1000, and the bloated fee of N3000 was an illegal charge which he was never aware of.
7. Payment for registration of carried over courses is also illegal. Do not pay for registering carried over courses.
8. All students will be asked in due time to submit their phone numbers to the school management so they can be communicated on school information whenever the need arises. This is to correct any form of misinformation moving forward.
9. There may not be admission for new applicants, likewise, final year students may graduate next year August 2018 due to the backwardness of academic schedule.
10. The Vice Chancellor gave out his phone number so students can have access to him for complaints, inquiries and reports.

Meanwhile ASUU is still negotiating with the federal government to meet the union's demands and end up the nationwide strike.
