#BayelsaToday: Suspected Cultists Attacks Traders & Passersby At Swali Market

There was pandemonium around the popular Swali Market in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state on Monday as suspected cultists came out in their numbers to rob unsuspecting passersby and traders selling outside the market.

The incident which occurred around 7:30pm plunged tricycle operators, passengers, traders and a host of others around  the Roundabout into a state of chaos, after the hoodlums who were wielding locally made guns known as 'Awka Made' fired several shots into the air to capture the moment.

The ever busy Swali Market soon became a ghost town as traders and tricycle operators abandoned their goods and tricycles and ran to safety, while the criminals dispossessed their victims of their phones, cash and other valuables, before the market vigilante group came to arrest the situation.

Speaking on the incessant violent crimes carried out by hoodlums around the market almost on a daily basis, a tricycle operator, who pleaded anonymity, called on the Bayelsa State Police Command to deploy security agents in the area.

He explained that passengers, road users and traders are always exposed to such attacks at the market roundabout, especially during the yuletide, but maintained the absence of security operatives in the area has given the criminals the assurance of having a field day whenever they strike.

He noted that there has been a great increase in the number of cases since the criminals noticed the absence of security operatives around the popular Swali Junction and the market roundabout, especially after the EndSARS protests.

The tricyclist also lamented that they are always at the mercy of criminals who rob them of their cash and other valuables.
