TRAGIC: Fisherman Dead, Son Missing In Bayelsa State

A local fisherman said to be 43 and identified simply as Pewo has been found dead; while his son who was identified as Erogbanyon Pewo, one of the six children was still missing as at the time of the report.

The body of Mr Pewo was found at the shores of Brass Island, Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. Confirming the incident, Youth Leader of Sangana fish town, Akassa clan, Kune Johnbull, said the incident followed a heavy storm that affected structures and properties in the communities.

The deceased, who hails from Ogbokiri, was suspected to have drowned alongside his son following rising tide and high current at the ocean. The fisherman reportedly went fishing on Sunday evening but failed to return while his son, who accompanied him was said to be missing.

It was gathered that the business owners, crayfish and dry fish vendors were all in a mourning mood on Thursday when the floating remains of the deceased were recovered and buried in the community.
